Post-Event Reflection: Phoenix Yuen College Orientation 2026 Day 2

We are delighted to share the successful completion of Phoenix Yuen College Orientation Session 2, held on the evening of Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the College Hall, JCSV IV, HKU. As the second of the two orientation sessions for new residents, the evening offered another warm welcome to those beginning their journey in our “Home Away from Home” — filled with learning, laughter and plenty of college spirit.

Following registration, the session officially began at 7:30 PM with a light warm-up activity, giving latecomers a gentle buffer to settle in. We were then honoured by the welcome remarks of College Master Prof. Sophia Chan, whose warm words set an inspiring tone for the evening ahead.
Next, RT Anna-Maria Kutateladze from our tutorial team delivered an engaging presentation — enriched with lively visuals — introducing the concepts of our neighborhood, village, and college. From the four residential colleges of Jockey Club Student Village IV to the many shared spaces that bring our community together, the session gave new residents a clear picture of the people and places that make up our unique residential community.
The evening continued with a vibrant Clubs & Committees Sharing segment, where student volunteers Wu Alice Xiaole & Yeung Ho Lam Sunnie introduced the wide array of student organizations available at Phoenix Yuen College. From interest groups to committees, the presentations showcased the many ways residents can get involved, develop leadership and shape campus life for themselves.

JRT Ali Choo then walked everyone through the Semester 1 calendar, highlighting the exciting events lined up for the months ahead — a perfect preview of all that awaits our new residents.
No orientation would be complete without the much-anticipated Fun Quiz, hosted by JRT Suyu Hao. Covering everything from the neighborhood, village, and college to safety topics, the quiz drew enthusiastic participation, with 16 lucky winners taking home college souvenirs.
The evening also featured an important Anti-Scam presentation by RT Keith Cheung and Senior Residential Operations Manager Ricky Li, equipping residents with practical tips to stay vigilant against scams — a timely and essential reminder for student life in Hong Kong today.

The session drew to a close with group photos — including a special snapshot of our returning residents — capturing the smiles of both familiar and newest members of our community as they formally begin the year at Phoenix Yuen College.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all attendees, volunteers, tutors and speakers for making this session a memorable one. To our new residents: welcome to the Phoenix Yuen College family — we look forward to seeing you active and engaged throughout the year ahead!

Here’s to a wonderful semester together — and see you all at the High Table Dinner on September 29!
Sincere thanks to all the members involved in preparing for the orientation! With passion and collaboration, we managed to deliver a truly memorable experience. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication.
